Do you upload my photos to a server?

No. All conversion happens locally in your browser using client-side technology. Your HEIC files never leave your device, which means faster conversions and complete privacy.

Will converting HEIC to PNG lose image quality?

No. PNG is a lossless format, so converting from HEIC to PNG preserves the original image quality — no compression artifacts are introduced during conversion.

How many files can I convert at once?

You can batch convert up to 10 files per session, with a maximum file size of 50 MB per file.

Does heictopng.io work on Windows?

Yes. Since it runs entirely in your browser, heictopng.io works on Windows, Mac, Linux, Chromebook, and mobile devices — no software installation required. This also solves the common issue of Windows not natively opening or previewing HEIC files.

Why can't Windows open my iPhone photos?

iPhones save photos in Apple's HEIC/HEIF format by default, which isn't natively supported by most versions of Windows Photo Viewer without additional codecs. Converting your HEIC files to PNG (or JPG) with heictopng.io makes them universally viewable on any Windows PC without installing extra software.

Does the converted PNG keep my photo's metadata (EXIF data)?

Currently, our converter focuses on fast, high-fidelity image conversion. If metadata preservation (such as date taken, GPS location, or camera info) is important for your workflow, check the tool's conversion options before processing, as support may vary by file.

Can I use heictopng.io with Adobe Lightroom?

Yes. Since Lightroom (particularly older or non-Apple-ecosystem versions) can have limited or inconsistent HEIC support, converting your files to PNG first ensures smooth importing and editing in Lightroom or other editing software.

Should I convert HEIC to PNG or JPG?

It depends on your use case:

• PNG is best when you need lossless quality, transparency support, or plan to edit the image further.
• JPG is best for smaller file sizes and everyday sharing, like on social media or email, where slight compression is acceptable.

If you're not sure, PNG is the safer choice for preserving full image quality.

How do I stop my iPhone from saving photos as HEIC?

On your iPhone, go to Settings > Camera > Formats, and select “Most Compatible” instead of “High Efficiency.” This will make your iPhone save new photos directly as JPG instead of HEIC. Note that this won’t convert photos you’ve already taken — for those, use heictopng.io.
